Read In

The students earned 30 blue tickets and voted to have a Read In.  To add to the celebration each student brought in a favorite book, pillow, blanket, and a flashlight.  They found a spot in the room and spent about 20 minutes reading to celebrate their good behavior!

Compare and Contrast

We have been learning to compare and contrast the characters, setting, and events in stories.  To introduce the concepts and vocabulary the students were given a Skittle and M & M.  They discussed the similarities and differences with their shoulder partner and we created a Venn Diagram.  Over the next several days we compared/contrasted several versions of one fairy tale.

1/2 Mile Run

Monday the students participated in the a 1/2 mile run for P.E.  The students learned to "pace not race" and have been practicing for the race for several weeks.

Here are the students stretching.

And they are off!
 Rylee pacing herself.
 Crossing the finish line!

Bye Bye Butterfly

This month we studied the life cycle of a butterfly.  We read several non-fiction books and magazines about butterflies.  Then we studied 6 caterpillars as they turned to chrysalis and eventually butterflies.  Below are pictures of our class as we released them.

Then the students wanted to find them again at recess... here they are chasing the butterflies back down!
